The Particulate Organic Carbon-to-Nitrogen Ratio Varies With Ocean Currents

چکیده
Ocean currents could adjust ocean carbon and nitrogen composition which are an important part of the global cycle. We procured concentrations particulate in different depths, classified them according to (upper 300 m), analyzed POC-to-PON ratio (particulate organic carbon-to-nitrogen ratio) variations. found that regions with have a higher than those without northern hemisphere, except 50°–60°N (median is 8.38). Warm ranges from 5.96 8.44) cold (6.19–8.89), for East Greenland Current (reach Labrador 8.89). Meanwhile, we also effects currents’ flowing distributions vary current types (e.g., cause formation distance shore). Generally speaking, eolian near-ocean change fiercer compensation near-coast currents. buffering effect variation between surface deep water, prevents severe ratio. The high-value anomaly caused by confluence warm was analyzed. It can be deduced high high-latitude region mainly terrigenous matter (especially carbon) low nitrogen.

Concentrations and ratios of particulate organic carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus in the global ocean
Knowledge of concentrations and elemental ratios of suspended particles are important for understanding many biogeochemical processes in the ocean. These include patterns of phytoplankton nutrient limitation as well as linkages between the cycles of carbon and nitrogen or phosphorus. To further enable studies of ocean biogeochemistry, we here present a global dataset consisting of 100,605 total...
متن کاملUpper ocean export of particulate organic carbon and biogenic silica in the Southern Ocean along 1701W
Upper-ocean fluxes of particulate organic carbon (POC) and biogenic silica (bSi) are calculated from four US JGOFS cruises along 1701W using a thorium-234 based approach. Both POC and bSi fluxes exhibit large variability vs. latitude during the seasonal progression of diatom dominated blooms. POC fluxes at 100m of up to 50mmolCm 2 d 1 are found late in the bloom, and farthest south near the Ros...
متن کاملBacterioplankton distribution and production in the bathypelagic ocean: Directly coupled to particulate organic carbon export?
A recently published evaluation of bacterioplankton abundance and productivity in the bathypelagic North Pacific suggests that these properties are generally coupled with particulate organic carbon (POC) fluxes. In that analysis, bacterial biomass and productivity were several-fold greater in subarctic than subtropical waters, consistent with the basin-scale distribution of POC flux and suggest...
متن کاملMajor bacterial contribution to the ocean reservoir of detrital organic carbon and nitrogen
Bacterial biomarkers (D-amino acids and muramic acid) were measured in various organic matter size fractions collected in the North Pacific and North Atlantic, and they were used to quantitatively estimate bacterial contributions to particulate and dissolved organic carbon and nitrogen reservoirs. The origins and yields of biomarkers were determined in cultured marine bacteria, and the results ...
متن کاملEvaluating Optical Proxies of Particulate Organic Carbon across the Surface Atlantic Ocean
Empirical relationships between particulate organic carbon (POC) and inherent optical properties (IOPs) are required for estimating POC from ocean-color remote sensing and autonomous platforms. The main relationships studied are those between POC and particulate attenuation (cp) and backscattering (bbp) coefficients. The parameters of these relationships can however differ considerably due to d...
